The Immigrant Band is the new recording by Irish heavyweights John Doyle and Eamon O’Leary, and stellar old-time musicians John Herrmann, Rafe Stefanini and Clelia Stefanini. Grammy nominated guitarist/singer/songwriter Doyle(Solas, Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and a host of others) produced this delicious collection of traditional old-time and Irish material with terrific originals in the mix. Long time musical friends, the group got together around the idea of recording some of the material they’d done on occasion – just for fun.
“This music is the issue of old friendships. Rafe and John Herrmann have been playing together, musically and otherwise, since The Stefanini Brothers first came to America, thirty years ago. Rae’s daughter, Clelia, has been a part of their music since birth, helping to press buttons on a couple of recordings (we can still hear her tiny voice yelling, “rolling!”) and, early on, playing use with her father. Watching Clelia mature musically has been a delight to us all. Eamon O’Leary and John Doyle, fellow Dubliners, and highly respected Irish musicians, met in New York in the early ’90’s and have been close friends and occasional bandmates ever since. John and John and Rafe have been making music together informally at festivals and at home for the past 15 years or so and have often expressed the desire to record together. It was only natural for these friends to come together to form The Immigrant Band”
